Tokoname Tounomori Mori Art Research Institute

The "Tokoname Ceramic Research Institute," stands at the back of the Tokoname Ceramic Forest. It was established in October 1961 by the late Nagasaburo Ina, the founder of Ina Seito Co., Ltd. (now LIXIL), who dreamed of promoting Tokoname ceramics. The first-floor exhibition room displays various works, ranging from ancient Tokoname large jars from the late Heian period to the works of renowned artisans from the Edo period to the present day. Designed by architect Sutemi Horiguchi, known for his research on tea rooms, the building features a modern design and distinctive purple tiles. In 2023, it was officially designated as a registered tangible cultural asset. Admission is free. *The Ceramic Research Institute typically holds a graduation exhibition for trainees from late February to early March each year, showcasing the distinctive works of the trainees. *The works in the collection of the Tōno Mori are usually displayed in the first-floor exhibition room. The second floor is used as a meeting room and does not display any works.
